Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for patients, considering medical history, lifestyle, and dietary habits.
- Develop and implement individualized medical nutrition therapy (MNT) plans for patients with various health conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and more.
- Provide one-on-one and group nutrition counseling and education to patients and their families, empowering them to make sustainable dietary changes.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition interventions, adjusting plans as necessary to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, adhering to professional and organizational standards.
- Stay abreast of the latest research and advancements in nutrition science and dietetics, integrating new knowledge into practice.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to patient care planning and problem-solving.
- Contribute to the development and review of patient education materials and clinical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Registered Dietitian (RD) credential or equivalent professional registration/licensure in Mauritius.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Dietitian, preferably within a hospital or clinical setting.
- Profound knowledge of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and its application to various health conditions.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach to care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific patient populations such as pediatrics, geriatrics, or critical care.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas (e.g., Certified Diabetes Educator, Sports Nutritionist).
- Familiarity with local Mauritian dietary customs and preferences.
- Proficiency in French and/or Mauritian Creole.
- Experience in developing and delivering community health education programs.
