Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for patients, considering medical history, lifestyle, and dietary habits.
  • Develop and implement individualized medical nutrition therapy (MNT) plans for patients with various health conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and more.
  • Provide one-on-one and group nutrition counseling and education to patients and their families, empowering them to make sustainable dietary changes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition interventions, adjusting plans as necessary to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, adhering to professional and organizational standards.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research and advancements in nutrition science and dietetics, integrating new knowledge into practice.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to patient care planning and problem-solving.
  • Contribute to the development and review of patient education materials and clinical guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential or equivalent professional registration/licensure in Mauritius.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Dietitian, preferably within a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Profound knowledge of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and its application to various health conditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach to care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific patient populations such as pediatrics, geriatrics, or critical care.
  • Additional certifications in specialized areas (e.g., Certified Diabetes Educator, Sports Nutritionist).
  • Familiarity with local Mauritian dietary customs and preferences.
  • Proficiency in French and/or Mauritian Creole.
  • Experience in developing and delivering community health education programs.
