As our Employee Relations Specialist, you will navigate a wide array of employee concerns, from general inquiries and conflict resolution to investigations and performance management. Your expertise will guide managers and employees through sensitive situations, providing expert advice and implementing effective solutions that align with both business objectives and employee well-being. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and misconduct, documenting findings and recommending appropriate resolutions.
  • Provide expert guidance and coaching to managers and employees on HR policies, performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
  • Interpret and apply relevant employment laws and regulations (e.g., ESA, Human Rights Code in Canada, and other applicable jurisdictions for a 'work from anywhere' model) to ensure compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and update employee relations policies, procedures, and guidelines to reflect best practices and legal requirements.
  • Facilitate mediations and difficult conversations between employees or between employees and management to foster positive working relationships.
  • Analyze employee relations trends and data to identify systemic issues and proactively recommend preventative strategies and training initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with HR Business Partners, Legal Counsel, and other stakeholders on complex ER cases and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage and track all employee relations cases, ensuring timely resolution and accurate record-keeping.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs on topics such as harassment prevention, conflict resolution, and fair workplace practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in Employee Relations, HR Generalist roles with a strong ER focus, or Labor Relations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting impartial workplace investigations from intake to resolution.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment law, human rights legislation, and common law principles (experience with other jurisdictions desirable for a remote role).
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on practical and compliant solutions.
  • Ability to navigate complex emotional situations with empathy, objectivity, and resilience.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and case management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • HR professional designation (e.g., CHRP, CPHR, SHRM-CP, PHR).
  • Experience working in a fully remote or distributed workforce environment.
  • Experience in the tech, consulting, or services industry.
  • Familiarity with cross-border employment considerations.
  • Proven track record of developing and delivering ER-related training.
