Key Responsibilities
- Drafting, formatting, and proofreading a wide array of legal documents including correspondence, pleadings, contracts, and presentations for both corporate and family law matters.
- Conducting preliminary legal research using online databases and other resources, compiling findings for solicitors.
- Managing and maintaining client files, ensuring all physical and digital documentation is organised, up-to-date, and secure.
- Coordinating diaries, scheduling appointments, meetings, and court dates, and managing travel arrangements for solicitors.
- Acting as a primary point of contact for clients, barristers, court staff, and other third parties, handling enquiries professionally and efficiently.
- Assisting with the preparation of court bundles, trial documents, and corporate transaction binders, ensuring all components are accurate and complete.
- Processing new client intake forms, conducting conflict checks, and managing client billing and expense reports.
- Supporting the team with administrative tasks such as photocopying, scanning, filing, and managing incoming/outgoing mail.
- Maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion in all client and firm-related matters.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 18 months) as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal, or Solicitor Assistant, preferably within a law firm setting.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a meticulous eye for grammar and spelling.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated discretion and understanding of client confidentiality.
- A strong work ethic and a proactive, problem-solving attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Law, a Legal Secretarial Diploma (e.g., CILEx, ILEX), or equivalent legal qualification.
- Familiarity with legal practice management software (e.g., Clio, Actionstep, Leap).
- Experience with document management systems.
- Previous exposure to both corporate law and family law procedures and terminology.
