Job Description
Pamuzinda Safari Lodge is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Part-Time Tour Guide to join our dedicated team. This role is perfect for an individual passionate about Zimbabwe’s wildlife, natural heritage, and cultural stories, eager to share their expertise with guests. As a Tour Guide, you will be the face of our lodge’s experiential offerings, leading guests on thrilling game drives, insightful bush walks, and other curated activities designed to immerse them in the beauty of our reserve. You will be responsible for providing engaging commentary, ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests, and fostering a deep appreciation for the environment. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a natural ability to connect with people, and a profound respect for wildlife conservation. This part-time position offers flexibility and the opportunity to work in a stunning natural setting, contributing directly to our guests’ unforgettable safari adventures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of local flora, fauna, and geology, and be adept at storytelling to bring the safari experience to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging and informative game drives, bush walks, and other guided tours for lodge guests.
- Identify and interpret wildlife, birds, flora, and local ecosystems.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all guests during activities, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering guest questions and enhancing their overall experience.
- Maintain the cleanliness and operational readiness of safari vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with guest transfers and arrivals/departures as needed.
- Contribute to the conservation efforts of the lodge by reporting observations and adhering to ethical wildlife viewing practices.
- Stay updated on local wildlife movements, environmental conditions, and relevant news.
- Adapt tours to suit guest interests, weather conditions, and wildlife sightings.
- Represent Pamuzinda Safari Lodge with professionalism and enthusiasm at all times.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Tour Guide, preferably in a safari or wildlife setting (1+ year).
- Excellent knowledge of Zimbabwean wildlife, birdlife, flora, and local ecosystems.
- Valid driver's license with professional driving experience, preferably for 4×4 vehicles.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Shona) is an advantage.
- First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Exceptional observational skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required by a lodge environment.
- A genuine passion for nature, conservation, and sharing knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certification in guiding, tourism, or hospitality.
- Experience in wildlife tracking and photography.
- Knowledge of local history and culture of the Mashonaland West Province.
- Ability to operate and maintain safari equipment.
- A background in environmental education or biology.
