Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Livestock Attendant (Ranch Worker) to join our team at Bungoma Dairies Ltd. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the daily care, feeding, and overall well-being of our cattle and other livestock. This is a hands-on position that requires physical fitness, a strong work ethic, and a genuine love for animals. You will be responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy environment for our animals, monitoring their health, assisting with breeding programs, and ensuring the smooth operation of daily ranch activities. This role is essential to our success, contributing directly to the quality of our livestock and the efficiency of our farm. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily feeding and watering of livestock, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Clean and maintain livestock enclosures, barns, and feeding areas to uphold high standards of hygiene and prevent disease.
  • Monitor the health and behavior of animals, identifying signs of illness, injury, or distress, and reporting issues promptly to the farm manager or veterinarian.
  • Assist with routine animal health procedures, including vaccinations, deworming, and basic first aid.
  • Support breeding programs, including assisting with artificial insemination, calving/lambing, and caring for newborn animals.
  • Handle and move livestock safely and humanely, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Maintain and repair fences, gates, and other ranch infrastructure as needed.
  • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment safely, such as tractors, feeders, and utility vehicles.
  • Record daily observations, feeding schedules, and health treatments accurately.
  • Adhere strictly to all farm safety protocols and animal welfare guidelines.
  • Assist with other general farm duties as assigned by the farm manager.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in livestock handling and care, preferably with cattle.
  • Basic knowledge of animal health, nutrition, and welfare practices.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
  • A genuine passion for animal care and agriculture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Animal Health, Livestock Production, or a related agricultural field.
  • Experience operating farm machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary first aid for livestock.
  • Experience with record-keeping and data entry related to livestock management.
