Job Description

Join our dedicated team as a Waste Collection Support Worker and play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and environmental health of the Cimarron community in Okotoks. This essential position involves assisting with the efficient and safe collection of waste and recycling materials, ensuring our streets and public spaces remain pristine. You will work closely with collection drivers and other team members, contributing directly to the quality of life for residents. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist waste collection drivers with the loading of waste, recycling, and organic materials into collection vehicles.
  • Operate compactors and other equipment safely and efficiently as directed.
  • Walk assigned routes, collecting refuse bins and placing them at appropriate pick-up points.
  • Ensure all collected materials are properly secured in the vehicle.
  • Report any observed hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, both on the vehicle and at designated collection sites.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and municipal regulations.
  • Provide excellent customer service to residents when interacting with the public.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of collection equipment and report any issues.
  • Help identify and sort recyclable materials as needed.

Required Skills

  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong understanding and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Basic knowledge of waste segregation and recycling principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in waste collection, general labour, or a similar physically demanding role.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License (non-GDL).
