Key Responsibilities

  • Actively research, investigate, and report on local news stories, events, and issues relevant to the Kingswood and Bristol community.
  • Conduct interviews with a diverse range of sources, including community leaders, residents, officials, and experts, ensuring accuracy and fairness.
  • Write compelling, accurate, and concise news articles, features, and online content under tight deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within the community to identify potential news leads and exclusive stories.
  • Attend press conferences, court hearings, council meetings, and other public events as required.
  • Capture high-quality multimedia content (photos, videos, audio) for accompanying reports, if equipped and trained.
  • Collaborate with editors and other team members to refine story angles, improve copy, and ensure journalistic standards are met.
  • Utilise social media and digital platforms to engage with the audience, promote content, and gather information.
  • Adhere strictly to media law, IPSO code of conduct, and internal editorial guidelines.
  • Respond promptly to breaking news situations, often requiring immediate field presence and rapid reporting.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Reporter or Journalist, demonstrating strong news judgment and storytelling ability.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and grammar.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research and verify facts from multiple sources.
  • Proficiency in interviewing techniques and building rapport with sources.
  • Strong understanding of media law, ethics, and journalistic best practices.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field and managing multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient with standard office software and content management systems.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle for field assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience with multimedia storytelling, including photography, videography, or audio editing.
  • Familiarity with the Kingswood and wider Bristol area, its communities, and local issues.
  • Proven track record of breaking exclusive stories or impactful investigative pieces.
