Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s team within a thriving industrial estate in Clark’s Town, Trelawny. This pivotal role involves overseeing and enforcing comprehensive health and safety regulations across multiple industrial operations. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, policies, and procedures that protect employees, contractors, and visitors, while also safeguarding company assets and reputation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of industrial safety principles, hazard identification, risk assessment, and emergency response planning, specifically tailored for a bustling industrial environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust Health & Safety policies and procedures in alignment with local regulations and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for all operational activities, recommending and implementing effective control measures.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and developing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and management.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Prepare and present regular reports on H&S performance, incidents, and compliance status to management.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., Ministry of Labour and Social Security) on all H&S matters.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and crisis management protocols.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through consistent communication, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional safety qualification.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience with environmental management systems.
  • Prior experience working within multi-tenant industrial estates or large-scale manufacturing facilities.
