Job Description
Katse Lodge is seeking a passionate and dedicated Gardener to join our esteemed team in Linakaneng, Thaba-Tseka. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a green thumb and a keen eye for detail to contribute to the natural beauty and tranquil ambiance of our Lodge. As our Gardener, you will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of our expansive grounds, gardens, and landscaped areas. Your work will directly impact our guests’ experience, ensuring they are greeted by lush, vibrant, and well-cared-for surroundings throughout their stay. This role requires a hands-on approach, a deep understanding of plant care, and the ability to work independently while also collaborating with the wider lodge team. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, from planting and pruning to pest control and irrigation management, ensuring our gardens thrive in all seasons. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily gardening tasks including planting, weeding, watering, pruning, mowing, and hedge trimming.
- Maintain the health and appearance of all plants, trees, shrubs, and floral displays across the lodge grounds.
- Operate and maintain gardening equipment and tools safely and efficiently (e.g., lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers).
- Monitor plants for signs of disease or pest infestation and apply appropriate treatments.
- Manage irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage and proper plant hydration.
- Prepare soil and planting beds, ensuring optimal conditions for plant growth.
- Assist with landscaping projects, including designing and implementing new garden features or plant arrangements.
- Keep outdoor areas tidy, free from litter, and aesthetically pleasing.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or significant plant health issues to management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Gardener or Landscaper.
- Knowledge of various plant species, their care requirements, and local flora.
- Proficiency in using gardening tools and equipment.
- Understanding of basic irrigation techniques.
- Ability to identify and treat common plant diseases and pests.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform demanding outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for horticulture.
- Reliability and a proactive approach to work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Horticulture certificate or relevant vocational training.
- Experience with sustainable gardening practices.
