Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Full-Time Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Frome Production Plant in Savanna-la-Mar. This critical role involves overseeing the mechanical integrity, reliability, and performance of a wide array of industrial machinery and systems essential to our sugar processing operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring optimal plant functionality, minimizing downtime, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. You will be responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment, ranging from heavy machinery to intricate process systems. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving complex mechanical challenges. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, electrical, and operations departments, to develop and execute maintenance strategies, capital projects, and safety protocols. A significant part of this role will be focused on preventative and predictive maintenance planning, ensuring our assets operate efficiently and safely, contributing directly to the plant’s productivity and profitability. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, install, and commission new mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of existing plant machinery and infrastructure.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for mechanical failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Manage capital projects, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and contractor oversight.
  • Optimize plant processes and equipment performance to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to maintenance technicians and production staff.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation for equipment and projects.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement culture of the plant through proactive identification of enhancement opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a production plant or heavy industrial setting
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards and best practices
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Project management capabilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for registration in Jamaica
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Experience in the sugar, food processing, or heavy manufacturing industry
  • Certifications in reliability engineering or asset management
