Job Description

Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized medical laboratory tests accurately and efficiently across various departments (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, serology, etc.).
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting minor technical issues.
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and culture media according to established protocols and quality control guidelines.
- Collect, process, and analyze patient samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) with precision and in strict compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and organized records of all tests performed, results, and quality control data in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Ensure strict adherence to quality control procedures, internal hospital policies, and external regulatory standards (e.g., KMLTTB, ISO).
- Interpret and report test results to medical staff in a timely, clear, and professional manner, highlighting critical findings.
- Participate actively in the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory methods, technologies, and diagnostic procedures.
- Manage laboratory supplies and inventory efficiently, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage conditions.
- Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including the proper handling, storage, and disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Contribute to fostering a clean, organized, and highly efficient laboratory workspace.

- Higher Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) with a valid practicing license is mandatory.
- At least 2 years of practical experience in a busy medical hospital laboratory.
- Experience with advanced diagnostic techniques and specialized laboratory equipment.
- Familiarity with hospital accreditation standards (e.g., JCI, COG, ISO 15189).
