Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and resilient Irrigation Support Worker to join our team in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. This critical role is essential for maintaining and developing sustainable water management and irrigation systems within the community, supporting various projects from landscaping and community gardens to specialized environmental initiatives. As an Irrigation Support Worker, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various types of irrigation systems (e.g., drip, sprinkler, subsurface).
  • Inspect and test irrigation systems to identify and resolve issues such as leaks, blockages, or component failures.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and design specifications for irrigation layouts.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on irrigation components, including cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments.
  • Assess water pressure, flow rates, and distribution patterns, making necessary adjustments for optimal performance.
  • Document work performed, materials used, and system conditions accurately.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, project managers, and local community stakeholders.
  • Train and mentor junior staff or local community members on basic irrigation maintenance as required.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies, assisting with ordering as needed.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of proven experience in irrigation system installation, maintenance, or repair.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools relevant to irrigation work.
  • Understanding of water pressure, flow dynamics, and basic hydraulics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in irrigation technology, horticulture, plumbing, or a related field.
  • Experience working in Northern or remote communities.
  • Knowledge of various irrigation control systems and smart water technologies.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Heavy equipment operator certification (e.g., mini-excavator) is an asset.
  • Experience with sustainable or environmentally conscious irrigation practices.
