Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for tiling and masonry work, ensuring they are clean, level, and ready for application.
  • Lay various types of tiles including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and mosaic on walls and floors, ensuring precise alignment and spacing.
  • Construct, repair, and maintain walls, foundations, and other structures using bricks, blocks, and stone.
  • Apply different types of finishes to walls, including rendering, pointing, and decorative masonry techniques.
  • Mix mortar, grout, and other materials to the correct consistency and apply them skilfully.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and dimensions.
  • Measure and cut materials accurately to fit complex angles and designs.
  • Ensure all work adheres to relevant building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively with other tradespeople, project managers, and clients to ensure project timelines and goals are met.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Mason or Tiler with a strong portfolio of finished work.
  • Expertise in various masonry techniques including bricklaying, blockwork, and stonework.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of tile installation for walls and floors, including preparation, cutting, and grouting.
  • Thorough understanding of building codes, construction methods, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Exceptional measurement, calculation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong physical stamina, dexterity, and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality craftsmanship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in masonry or tiling.
  • Valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
  • Experience with specialist decorative finishes or historical restoration projects.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to reliable transport.
  • First Aid certification.
