Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and imaginative Animator proficient in both 2D and 3D techniques to join our growing creative team in Pontcanna, Cardiff. Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality 2D and 3D character and object animations for various projects, including games, promotional content, and interactive experiences.
- Collaborate closely with concept artists, modelers, riggers, and game designers to ensure animation aligns with artistic vision and technical requirements.
- Apply animation principles such as timing, spacing, weight, and anticipation to create believable and engaging movements that enhance storytelling.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas for animation styles, character movements, and visual storytelling.
- Iterate on animations based on feedback from directors, leads, and internal reviews, maintaining a keen eye for detail and quality.
- Ensure animations are optimized for performance across target platforms without compromising visual quality.
- Maintain a consistent art style and quality standard throughout all animation assets, adhering to project guidelines.
- Stay updated with industry trends, software advancements, and new animation techniques to continuously improve workflows and output.
- Assist with rigging and skinning characters when necessary, or provide constructive feedback to riggers for optimal animation performance and ease of use.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in industry-standard 2D animation software (e.g., Adobe Animate, Toon Boom Harmony).
- Proficiency in industry-standard 3D animation software (e.g., Autodesk Maya, Blender, 3ds Max).
- Strong understanding of animation principles (squash & stretch, anticipation, timing, staging, arc, secondary action, etc.).
- Proven ability to create compelling character and object animation that conveys emotion and intent.
- Solid understanding of anatomy, kinematics, and character performance for believable movement.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills within a creative environment.
- A strong online portfolio demonstrating a range of 2D and 3D animation styles and capabilities, including character animation and motion graphics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Animation, Fine Arts, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Experience with real-time game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL) for animation pipeline tools or automation.
- Experience with motion capture data cleanup, editing, and integration.
- Ability to adapt to different art styles and project requirements with flexibility and creativity.
- Prior experience working in a professional animation or game development studio environment.
