OpenText is seeking an enthusiastic Entry-Level Network Configuration Aide to join our Infrastructure Operations team in Waterloo. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior network engineers with the configuration and deployment of network hardware, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Perform basic network cabling, patching, and physical installation of network devices in data centers and office environments.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of network equipment, IP addresses, and configuration changes.
  • Monitor network performance and health using various tools, escalating anomalies to senior staff.
  • Support basic troubleshooting of network connectivity issues under supervision.
  • Create and update network documentation, including diagrams, procedures, and runbooks.
  • Participate in planned network maintenance activities and upgrades.
  • Learn and adhere to IT security policies and best practices related to network configurations.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Network Operations team as needed.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, OSI model, LAN/WAN concepts).
  • Familiarity with network topologies and common network protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and concepts quickly.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and a proactive approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Information Technology, Computer Networking, or a related field.
  • Experience (even self-taught or academic) with command-line interfaces (CLI).
  • Familiarity with network operating systems (e.g., Cisco IOS, Juniper Junos).
  • Basic understanding of network security principles.
  • Any relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCENT) are a plus.
