Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver effective health and safety training sessions for all levels of staff, promoting a strong safety culture.
- Prepare and maintain detailed safety reports, records, and documentation for internal review and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and manage emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, ensuring all operations adhere to current legislation and best practices.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and storage of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with department heads and external bodies (e.g., regulatory agencies) on safety-related matters.
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to site safety rules.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with ISO 45001 certification and implementation.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to the local workforce (e.g., Spanish).
