Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver effective health and safety training sessions for all levels of staff, promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed safety reports, records, and documentation for internal review and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and manage emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, ensuring all operations adhere to current legislation and best practices.
  • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and storage of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with department heads and external bodies (e.g., regulatory agencies) on safety-related matters.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to site safety rules.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 certification and implementation.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to the local workforce (e.g., Spanish).
