Job Description
Are you a hands-on technical professional with a passion for renewable energy and a desire to make a tangible impact? Solaris Energy Rwanda is seeking a dedicated and skilled Solar Technician to join our growing team based in Gisenyi (Rubavu), Western Province. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in bringing clean, sustainable energy solutions directly to our diverse clientele. As a Solar Technician, you will be responsible for the comprehensive installation, maintenance, and repair of various solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, ranging from residential rooftop setups to complex commercial ground-mount arrays and off-grid solutions. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring that our systems are installed safely, operate efficiently, and deliver consistent power, thereby contributing significantly to Rwanda’s clean energy goals and the well-being of our customers. Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and commission various solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, batteries, and monitoring equipment, adhering to design specifications and local codes.
- Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative servicing of existing solar installations to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair technical issues related to solar PV systems, including electrical faults, panel defects, and inverter malfunctions.
- Perform site assessments to determine optimal placement of solar equipment, assess structural integrity, and identify potential hazards.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and industry best practices during all phases of installation and maintenance.
- Educate clients on system operation, basic maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance activities, and inventory of parts and tools.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, electrical engineers, and other team members to ensure seamless project execution.
- Stay updated with the latest solar technology advancements, installation techniques, and safety standards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Solar Technician or in a related electrical/technical field.
- Strong understanding of solar PV system components, wiring, and electrical principles.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools for electrical and mechanical installations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Knowledge of electrical safety procedures and OSHA (or equivalent local) regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Valid Rwandan driving license with a clean record.
- Fluency in Kinyarwanda and working knowledge of English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical diploma or certification in Solar Energy, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- NABCEP (or similar international/local) certification for PV Installation or Maintenance.
- Experience with specific inverter brands (e.g., Huawei, Fronius, SMA) or battery storage solutions (e.g., Pylontech, BYD).
- Familiarity with off-grid and hybrid solar system designs.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
