As a Lighting Technician specializing in stage and event setup, you will be instrumental in bringing our clients’ visions to life, ensuring flawless execution from conceptual design through to de-rig.
Your role will involve the hands-on setup, operation, and maintenance of advanced lighting equipment for various events, including corporate conferences, music concerts, theatrical productions, festivals, and private functions throughout Edinburgh and beyond. We are looking for someone who possesses a strong technical foundation, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. You will be expected to work independently when required, problem-solve under pressure, and maintain a high standard of safety and quality at all times. Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, rig, and operate lighting systems for various live events and productions.
- Perform pre-event checks, testing, and troubleshooting of all lighting equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Execute safe and efficient setup and de-rigging of lighting fixtures, dimmers, consoles, and associated cabling.
- Collaborate closely with event managers, production teams, and other technical departments (audio, video) to integrate lighting seamlessly.
- Interpret lighting plots, technical riders, and artistic concepts to translate them into practical lighting designs.
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs of lighting inventory.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, faults, and maintenance activities.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, particularly concerning working at height and electrical safety.
- Provide technical support during live events, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operation.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of equipment, ensuring safe transport and storage.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Lighting Technician in a live events or theatrical setting.
- Proficiency in operating and programming professional lighting consoles (e.g., Avolites, grandMA, Chamsys).
- Strong understanding of DMX, Art-Net, sACN, and other lighting control protocols.
- Solid knowledge of various lighting fixtures, including intelligent lights, LED technology, conventional fixtures, and hazers/foggers.
- Ability to read and interpret lighting plots, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues under pressure.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various environments (indoors/outdoors, heights).
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Exceptional teamwork and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant technical qualification or certification in lighting design, stagecraft, or electrical engineering.
- Experience with CAD software for lighting design (e.g., Vectorworks Spotlight, Capture).
- IPAF or PASMA certification.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with power distribution and temporary electrical installations.
- A portfolio demonstrating previous lighting design and operational work.
