Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Lab Technician to join our state-of-the-art diagnostic facility located at Le Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis. This pivotal on-site role is at the heart of our operations, where precision, efficiency, and a meticulous approach to sample handling and testing are paramount. As a Medical Lab Technician, you will be instrumental in processing various biological samples, conducting a wide array of laboratory tests, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of results that directly inform patient care decisions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass the entire lifecycle of sample management, from initial receipt and processing to analysis and reporting. This includes preparing samples for microscopic examination, operating and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment, performing chemical analysis, hematological studies, microbiological cultures, and immunology tests. You will be expected to identify and troubleshoot issues with equipment and procedures, participate in quality assurance programs, and maintain detailed and accurate records of all tests performed and results obtained. Adherence to strict safety protocols and aseptic techniques is non-negotiable, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
- Receive, log, and prepare patient samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for testing, ensuring proper identification and integrity.
- Perform a wide range of laboratory tests including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and molecular diagnostics using automated and manual techniques.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment and instruments according to established protocols.
- Monitor and evaluate quality control samples and implement corrective actions as needed to ensure accurate test results.
- Analyze test results, interpret data, and report findings accurately and efficiently to medical professionals.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical issues with laboratory equipment, tests, and procedures.
- Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety regulations, quality assurance policies, and accreditation standards.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of all analyses performed, equipment maintenance, and quality control checks.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in medical laboratory science.
- Assist in inventory management of laboratory reagents and consumables.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related scientific field.
- Proven experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with a strong emphasis on testing and sample handling.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting laboratory instruments.
- Thorough understanding of laboratory safety regulations and quality control procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Computer literacy, including experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification or registration with a recognized professional body (e.g., MLSC, ASCP, etc.).
- Experience with specific diagnostic platforms relevant to a multi-disciplinary lab.
- Familiarity with ISO 15189 standards.
- Experience in training or mentoring junior technicians.
