Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to lead critical EHS initiatives within a bustling industrial estate located in Bridgeport, Portmore. This is a pivotal professional role designed for an individual with a proven track record in establishing, implementing, and maintaining robust health and safety management systems within complex industrial environments. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety (OHS) programs and policies in alignment with local and international standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections of industrial facilities, equipment, and processes.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant OHS legislation, including Jamaica's Factories Act and other pertinent regulations.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training, inspections, and compliance activities.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, fostering a proactive safety culture across the industrial estate.
  • Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
  • Collaborate with emergency services and internal teams to develop and test emergency response plans.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety performance and implement best practices.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in an EHS role within an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001)
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, or equivalent
  • Experience with Integrated Management Systems (IMS) incorporating quality, environment, and safety
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Experience in diverse industrial sectors (e.g., chemical, food processing, logistics)
  • Fluency in additional languages (though not strictly required for this role)
