Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety (OHS) programs and policies in alignment with local and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections of industrial facilities, equipment, and processes.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant OHS legislation, including Jamaica's Factories Act and other pertinent regulations.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training, inspections, and compliance activities.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, fostering a proactive safety culture across the industrial estate.
- Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
- Collaborate with emergency services and internal teams to develop and test emergency response plans.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety performance and implement best practices.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in an EHS role within an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001)
- Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, or equivalent
- Experience with Integrated Management Systems (IMS) incorporating quality, environment, and safety
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience in diverse industrial sectors (e.g., chemical, food processing, logistics)
- Fluency in additional languages (though not strictly required for this role)
