As an Emergency Dispatcher, you will be the first point of contact for individuals facing critical situations. Your primary responsibility will be to receive, assess, and prioritize incoming emergency calls, rapidly gathering essential information to determine the nature and severity of the incident. This requires exceptional active listening skills, the ability to ask precise questions under pressure, and the capability to quickly synthesize information to make informed decisions. You will operate advanced communication systems and dispatch appropriate emergency personnel, including police, fire, and medical teams, ensuring the fastest possible response.

Beyond just dispatching, you will be instrumental in guiding callers through stressful situations, providing vital pre-arrival instructions, and maintaining continuous communication with field units. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and accurately process incoming emergency calls, identifying the nature of the emergency and critical information.
  • Prioritize calls based on established protocols and urgency, ensuring appropriate response levels.
  • Dispatch police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency services to incident locations swiftly and efficiently.
  • Provide clear, concise, and calming pre-arrival instructions to callers during medical emergencies or other critical situations.
  • Maintain continuous communication with field units, providing updates and receiving status reports.
  • Operate multi-channel radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems with proficiency.
  • Record all incident details, actions taken, and communications accurately in dispatch logs and databases.
  • Monitor multiple emergency frequencies and security systems, recognizing potential developing situations.
  • Adhere strictly to all departmental policies, procedures, and relevant legal regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with other dispatchers, supervisors, and external agencies to ensure seamless coordination.

Required Skills

  • Fluency in German and English (written and spoken) is essential.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills, including active listening and clear articulation.
  • Proven ability to remain calm, focused, and effective under pressure in high-stress situations.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to make rapid, sound decisions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and ability to learn new dispatch software quickly.
  • High level of empathy, patience, and professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an emergency dispatcher, call taker, or in a similar critical communications role.
  • Knowledge of local geography and road networks within Munich and the Laim district.
  • Certifications in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) or Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD).
  • Additional language proficiency (e.g., Bavarian dialect, other European languages).
  • Experience with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems specific to emergency services.
