Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Maintenance Electrician to join our dynamic team at Dalny Mine in Chegutu. This crucial role involves ensuring the continuous and safe operation of all electrical systems and equipment across our mining facilities, processing plants, and associated infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of electrical apparatus, including high-voltage systems, motor control centres, automation equipment, and general plant electrical services. You will work closely with other maintenance personnel and operational teams to minimize downtime, optimize performance, and uphold the highest safety standards in a challenging industrial environment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, inspections, and servicing of all electrical plant and equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical faults on motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, PLC systems, and other control circuits.
- Execute repairs and replacements of defective electrical components, ensuring compliance with safety standards and best practices.
- Install new electrical systems, wiring, and equipment as per engineering specifications and national electrical codes.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure all electrical installations meet regulatory requirements and internal safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
- Collaborate with mechanical technicians, engineers, and operational staff to optimize equipment reliability and availability.
- Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and provide effective solutions to restore operations.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and training programs.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Maintenance Electrician in an industrial or mining setting.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems.
- Expertise in motor control circuits, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and soft starters.
- Ability to diagnose and repair PLC-based control systems.
- Competency in using electrical testing equipment (multimeters, meggers, oscilloscopes).
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Adherence to strict safety protocols and procedures.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding environments.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Apprenticeship-trained Electrician with a Class 1 Journeyman Certificate.
- Experience with SCADA systems and industrial automation.
- Familiarity with mining-specific electrical equipment and safety regulations.
- Certifications in high-voltage switching or confined space entry.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
