Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Database Administrator with a strong focus on SQL Server, backup strategies, and performance optimization to join our dynamic IT team in Speke, Liverpool. As a Database Administrator, you will be a pivotal member, responsible for the complete lifecycle management of our critical database infrastructure. This encompasses everything from design and implementation to maintenance, security, and performance tuning of our SQL Server environments. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the high availability, scalability, and integrity of our data, which is at the heart of our operations and client services.

Your day-to-day will involve hands-on management of multiple SQL Server instances, implementing robust backup and recovery solutions, and continuously monitoring database performance to identify and resolve bottlenecks. We’re looking for someone who isn’t just reactive but proactively seeks to improve our database systems, applying best practices for optimization, security hardening, and disaster recovery planning. You’ll be instrumental in developing and maintaining stored procedures, functions, and views, as well as providing support for application development teams regarding database design and query optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances across various environments (development, test, production).
  • Implement and manage comprehensive database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and perform proactive tuning to ensure optimal operation.
  • Manage database security, including user permissions, roles, and access controls.
  • Conduct regular database health checks, maintenance, and patching.
  • Develop, test, and implement T-SQL scripts for database automation, monitoring, and data manipulation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance problems, connectivity, and data corruption.
  • Collaborate with development teams on database design, query optimization, and schema changes.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical database support as needed.

Required Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server (2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, or later).
  • Expertise in T-SQL scripting and query optimization.
  • In-depth knowledge of database backup, recovery, and high availability (AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Mirroring, Log Shipping).
  • Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools (e.g., SQL Server Management Studio, Performance Monitor, DMVs).
  • Solid understanding of database security best practices.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server operating systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar SQL Server certification.
  • Experience with cloud-based database platforms (Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS).
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting for database automation.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Experience with other database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ITIL frameworks for service management.
