Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, proofreading, and amending a variety of legal documents, including correspondence, pleadings, contracts, and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
  • Managing and maintaining comprehensive physical and electronic filing systems, ensuring all documents are organised, accessible, and in accordance with retention policies.
  • Assisting with case preparation, including organising exhibits, discovery documents, and preparing trial binders.
  • Conducting legal research using various databases and resources to support ongoing cases and provide relevant information to legal teams.
  • Scheduling appointments, meetings, and court appearances, and managing diaries for solicitors and barristers.
  • Liaising with clients, court staff, opposing counsel, and other external parties in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Preparing legal forms, applications, and submissions, and ensuring timely and correct filing with courts and other regulatory bodies.
  • Transcribing dictations, creating presentations, and preparing routine legal and administrative correspondence.
  • Billing assistance, including time entry, expense reporting, and preparing invoices.
  • Adhering to strict confidentiality protocols and ethical guidelines inherent in legal practice.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar legal support role.
  • Proven proficiency in drafting and proofreading legal documents with exceptional accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills with experience in managing complex filing systems (both digital and physical).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to conduct basic legal research.
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • A solid understanding of legal terminology and legal procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Legal secretarial qualification (e.g., CILEx Level 3 Diploma in Legal Secretaries).
  • Experience with case management software (e.g., Clio, Actionstep, LEAP).
  • Familiarity with specific practice areas such as litigation, corporate law, or property law.
  • A proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
