Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a diverse menu of coffee, tea, and other beverages to exacting standards, ensuring consistency in taste, temperature, and presentation.
- Operate and maintain all coffee-making equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, and brewing devices, performing regular cleaning and preventative maintenance in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
- Engage with customers in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner, taking orders accurately, offering personalized recommendations, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
- Handle cash and card transactions using a Point-of-Sale (POS) system, ensuring accuracy, proper cash handling procedures, and daily reconciliation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting coffee station, preparation area, and seating area, adhering strictly to all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Monitor and replenish coffee beans, milk, syrups, pastries, and other supplies, communicating inventory needs and stock levels to management promptly.
- Educate customers about our coffee offerings, including different blends, origins, flavour profiles, and various brewing methods.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations during peak hours, contribute to a positive work environment, and assist with other cafe duties as needed.
- Assist with basic food preparation and serving, such as pastries, sandwiches, and other menu items, ensuring quality and presentation standards are met.
- Resolve customer complaints or concerns with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency, escalating complex issues to management when necessary to ensure guest satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Barista in a cafe or restaurant setting.
- Demonstrable knowledge of various coffee beans, brewing methods, and espresso machine operation.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of quality and cleanliness.
- Basic math skills for handling cash and managing orders.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- A relevant certificate or diploma in hospitality or food & beverage services.
- Experience with latte art techniques.
- Knowledge of local Mauritian coffee preferences and blends.
- Ability to speak multiple languages (e.g., French, Creole) to better serve our diverse customer base.
