Career.zycto is seeking a vibrant and knowledgeable Tour Guide to join our expanding team in the picturesque coastal village of Cayton, near Scarborough. As a Tour Guide, you will lead various excursions, ranging from historical walks through Scarborough’s ancient streets and castle grounds to scenic tours along the stunning Yorkshire coastline and into the North York Moors National Park. You will engage with diverse groups, ensuring every guest feels welcomed, informed, and entertained. This role requires not only a comprehensive understanding of the region’s heritage, flora, and fauna but also the ability to manage group dynamics, handle questions with grace, and adapt your presentation style to suit different audiences. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct engaging and informative tours of local attractions, historical sites, and natural landscapes in and around Cayton, Scarborough.
  • Develop and deliver compelling narratives that highlight the unique history, culture, and folklore of the region.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all tour participants, adhering strictly to company policies and local safety regulations.
  • Manage group logistics, including timing, routes, and points of interest, to deliver a smooth and enjoyable experience for all guests.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with guests, answering questions, addressing concerns, and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Adapt tour content and style to suit the interests, demographics, and accessibility needs of different groups.
  • Stay up-to-date with local events, new attractions, regional developments, and relevant current affairs to enhance tour offerings.
  • Assist with pre-tour preparations, including equipment checks and route planning, and post-tour feedback collection as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (18+ months) in tour guiding, public speaking, or a customer-facing role within tourism/hospitality.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and storytelling abilities in English, with clear articulation.
  • In-depth knowledge of Scarborough, Cayton, and the wider North Yorkshire region (history, geography, culture, natural environment).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management capabilities, with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to think quickly, problem-solve efficiently, and adapt to unforeseen circumstances with a calm demeanor.
  • Valid UK driving license (or willingness to obtain one upon arrival) for transport to various tour sites.
  • An enthusiastic, energetic, and positive attitude, capable of inspiring and engaging visitors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in additional languages (e.g., German, French, Spanish, Mandarin) to cater to international visitors.
  • Certification in first aid or emergency response, demonstrating a commitment to safety.
  • Degree or diploma in Tourism, History, Geography, Archaeology, or related fields.
  • Experience living or working abroad, demonstrating adaptability and cultural awareness.
  • Familiarity with local legends, folklore, and lesser-known historical anecdotes to enrich tour narratives.
