Career.zycto is on the lookout for a skilled and enthusiastic Lighting Technician to join our dedicated production team in Beeston, Nottingham. In this pivotal role, you’ll be instrumental in designing, setting up, and operating sophisticated lighting systems for a wide array of events, from intimate corporate gatherings and grand theatrical productions to high-energy concerts and unique public installations. As a core member of our events team, you’ll be involved in every stage of the production cycle. From the initial conceptualisation and equipment specification, through the meticulous preparation and installation of fixtures, to the dynamic programming and real-time operation during live events. Key Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and execute lighting plots for various events, including concerts, conferences, theatrical performances, and corporate functions.
- Set up, rig, focus, and dismantle a wide range of lighting equipment, including intelligent fixtures, conventional lights, LEDs, and special effects units.
- Operate lighting consoles (e.g., Avolites, grandMA, Chamsys) during live events, programming cues and running shows.
- Perform routine maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of lighting equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate closely with event producers, directors, sound technicians, and stage managers to achieve desired aesthetic and technical outcomes.
- Ensure strict adherence to all health and safety regulations, including working at height, electrical safety, and manual handling.
- Assist with inventory management and maintenance of lighting department equipment.
- Load and unload equipment, ensuring safe transport and handling.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Lighting Technician in live event or theatre production.
- Strong understanding of DMX protocols and intelligent lighting systems.
- Proficiency in operating professional lighting consoles (e.g., Avolites Titan, grandMA2/3, Chamsys MagicQ).
- Solid knowledge of electrical safety, rigging principles, and working at height regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues under pressure.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in various environments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications (e.g., IPAF, PASMA, Electrical Safety).
- Driving licence with experience driving vans (B+E entitlement preferred).
- Formal qualification in Technical Theatre, Event Production, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software for lighting design (e.g., Vectorworks, Capture).
- Portfolio showcasing previous lighting design and technical work.
