Job Description

Meliá Zanzibar is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dynamic culinary team as a Catering Preparation Worker. As a Catering Preparation Worker, you will play a crucial supporting role in our kitchen operations, assisting chefs and other culinary staff in preparing high-quality ingredients and maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workspace. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs and cooks with basic food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients for various dishes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas, including workstations, equipment, and storage facilities, adhering strictly to hygiene standards and resort protocols.
  • Support in the setup and breakdown of catering events, buffets, and food service stations, ensuring timely and efficient execution.
  • Operate and clean kitchen equipment such as blenders, mixers, and slicers safely and efficiently, reporting any malfunctions.
  • Receive and properly store food deliveries, ensuring correct rotation, labeling, and inventory practices to minimize waste.
  • Monitor food temperatures and storage conditions to ensure compliance with local and international food safety regulations.
  • Assist in dishwashing and pot washing as needed, ensuring a constant supply of clean utensils and cookware for kitchen operations.
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines set by the resort and local authorities without exception.
  • Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth workflow, timely service, and a cohesive team environment.
  • Learn and adapt to various culinary techniques and recipes as guided by senior staff, showing eagerness for continuous improvement.

  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Swahili is a significant advantage for communication with local team members and suppliers.
