Key Responsibilities
- Accurately measure and mix ingredients to prepare various types of dough (bread, pastry, pizza, etc.) according to established recipes and standards.
- Operate and maintain bakery equipment such as mixers, proofers, and ovens safely and efficiently, ensuring they are always in optimal working condition.
- Knead, shape, and portion dough for different baked goods, ensuring consistency in size, weight, and quality for every product.
- Monitor dough proofing and fermentation processes to achieve optimal rise, texture, and flavor for all baked items.
- Assist Head Bakers and Pastry Chefs with all aspects of daily production, including preparing fillings, glazes, decorations, and other components as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic workstation and kitchen area at all times, adhering strictly to HACCP and other food safety and sanitation standards.
- Manage inventory of baking ingredients, assist with stock rotation, and promptly report any shortages to ensure continuous operation.
- Assist with the packing, labeling, and proper storage of finished baked goods to maintain freshness and quality.
- Collaborate effectively with the entire kitchen team to ensure smooth operations, timely delivery of products, and a harmonious work environment.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and best practices to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.
Required Skills
- Proven basic knowledge of baking principles and dough handling techniques.
- Ability to accurately measure ingredients and follow recipes precisely.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality products consistently.
- Physical stamina and dexterity, capable of standing for long periods, bending, and lifting moderate weights (up to 25kg).
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety standards.
- Reliable, punctual, highly organized, and able to manage time efficiently.
- Good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a bakery, hotel kitchen, or similar culinary setting.
- Relevant culinary certificate or diploma from a recognized institution.
- Familiarity with various types of bread and pastry production.
- Knowledge of different flour types and their properties.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Swahili.
