Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Animal Caretaker with a specialization in Livestock Feeding to join our team in Naivasha, Nakuru County. This pivotal role requires an individual with a deep understanding of animal nutrition, health, and welfare, particularly concerning various types of livestock including cattle, sheep, and goats. As an Animal Caretaker, you will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of animal care, ensuring all livestock receive optimal nutrition, a clean environment, and timely health monitoring.

Your daily responsibilities will revolve around the precise implementation of feeding schedules and dietary plans, ensuring that each animal receives the correct type and quantity of feed. This involves careful measurement, preparation, and distribution of feed, as well as monitoring consumption patterns and reporting any anomalies. Beyond feeding, you will play a crucial role in observing animal behavior and health, identifying any signs of illness, injury, or distress, and bringing these to the immediate attention of management or veterinary staff. Key Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to and implement daily feeding schedules and dietary plans for all assigned livestock.
  • Accurately measure, prepare, and distribute feed, ensuring appropriate portions and nutritional content.
  • Monitor livestock feed consumption, water intake, and general behavior for any signs of illness, injury, or stress.
  • Clean and sanitize feeding areas, water troughs, and animal enclosures daily to maintain optimal hygiene.
  • Assist with routine veterinary procedures, including vaccinations, deworming, and administering medication under supervision.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of feeding activities, animal health, breeding cycles, and treatment plans.
  • Report any observed changes in animal health, behavior, or feeding patterns promptly to the farm manager.
  • Participate in the movement and handling of livestock safely and humanely.
  • Ensure all farm equipment related to feeding and animal care is clean and in good working order.
  • Adhere to all farm safety protocols and animal welfare guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in animal care, specifically with livestock (cattle, sheep, goats).
  • Strong understanding of livestock nutrition and feeding requirements.
  • Ability to observe and identify signs of illness or distress in animals.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding farm duties, including lifting and carrying.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.

Preferred Qualifications
