Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, meticulous, and experienced Accountant to join our dynamic Finance Department. As a key member of our team, you will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our financial records and reporting. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to grow their career within a reputable Sacco environment, directly contributing to our mission of member empowerment and financial literacy. You will be responsible for managing daily accounting operations, assisting in financial planning, and ensuring all financial transactions adhere to regulatory standards and internal policies, specifically those governing Saccos in Kenya. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and Sacco operations. You will collaborate closely with other departments, providing insightful financial analysis and supporting strategic decision-making to drive the Sacco’s sustained growth and financial health. This is more than just a numbers role; it’s about being a guardian of our members’ trust and financial future, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial dealings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and budgets in accordance with IFRS and Sacco regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws, statutory obligations (e.g., KRA, SASRA), and internal financial policies.
  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule, ensuring all deductions and remittances are handled correctly.
  • Conduct regular financial analysis, identify trends, variances, and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Maintain robust financial controls and implement best practices to safeguard Sacco assets.
  • Support the development and implementation of financial strategies and operational improvements.
  • Handle member inquiries related to financial statements and transactions professionally.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in an accounting role, preferably within a financial institution or Sacco.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Solid understanding of Kenyan tax laws and financial regulations (IFRS, SASRA guidelines).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate financial information clearly.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA (K) qualification or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience working specifically with Sacco management systems (SMS).
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
