Job Description

Quirimba Island Lodge is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Part-Time Bookstore Helper to join our dedicated team. In this pivotal role, you will be the welcoming face of our lodge’s small, curated bookstore and gift shop, assisting guests with their selections and ensuring the space remains a charming and inviting haven. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the bookstore, including organizing inventory, processing sales, and keeping the area clean and tidy. Key Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet and assist lodge guests in finding desired books, magazines, and gift items.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, tidiness, and attractive display of the bookstore and surrounding areas.
  • Organize and restock shelves, ensuring all items are neatly arranged and easily accessible.
  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving new stock, tagging items, and conducting periodic stock checks.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using our point-of-sale system (training provided).
  • Provide information about local authors, culture, and the Quirimbas Archipelago as it relates to our literature collection.
  • Handle guest inquiries and feedback with professionalism and a friendly demeanor.
  • Collaborate with the lodge management team to suggest new titles or gift items that align with guest interests.
  • Support general retail operations and contribute to a positive guest experience.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency for point-of-sale systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • A genuine passion for books and reading.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a proactive work ethic.
  • Ability to perform light physical tasks such as lifting boxes and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Portuguese or local languages (e.g., Kimwani, Makonde) is a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with inventory management practices.
  • Experience working in a remote or island environment.
