Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher to join our vibrant team in James Bay, Victoria, specifically focusing on educating foreign students. This pivotal role involves designing and delivering high-quality English language instruction, as well as providing crucial cultural orientation to help our students adapt to life in Canada. Our ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of effective language acquisition methodologies and has a proven ability to tailor lessons to meet the varied needs, proficiency levels, and cultural contexts of adult learners. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive lesson plans that encompass speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, ensuring they are engaging, interactive, and relevant to everyday life and academic pursuits in Canada. Beyond language instruction, this role involves guiding students through cultural nuances, local customs, and practical aspects of living in Victoria, British Columbia, thus empowering them with the confidence to navigate their new surroundings successfully. You will continuously assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt your teaching strategies to maximize learning outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, prepare, and deliver engaging English language lessons tailored for foreign students across various proficiency levels.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies and materials that cater to diverse learning styles and cultural backgrounds.
  • Provide comprehensive cultural orientation and support to help students integrate into Canadian society and understand local customs.
  • Assess student progress regularly through quizzes, assignments, and presentations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Adapt curriculum and lesson plans to meet the specific needs and goals of individual students and groups.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment that promotes active participation and intercultural understanding.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to share best practices, develop new resources, and enhance program effectiveness.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and training sessions to stay current with educational trends and methodologies.
  • Communicate effectively with students regarding their progress, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
  • Assist students with practical inquiries related to their studies and life in Victoria, British Columbia.

Required Skills

  • Native or near-native fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Demonstrated expertise in communicative language teaching (CLT) and other modern EFL/ESL methodologies.
  • Exceptional classroom management and instructional delivery skills.
  • Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in developing and adapting engaging curriculum and teaching materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to assess student performance and provide constructive, motivating feedback.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A recognized TESOL, CELTA, or DELTA certification.
  • Experience teaching English to adult learners from various countries.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) framework.
  • Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Mandarin, Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese).
  • Experience living or working abroad, demonstrating firsthand intercultural competence.
  • Master's degree in Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
