Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Entry Level Forest Ranger to join our team in the beautiful Tsawwassen, Delta area. As an Entry Level Forest Ranger, you will play a crucial role in the management, protection, and preservation of local forest lands. Your day-to-day will be dynamic, often involving field work in varied terrain and weather conditions. You will contribute to maintaining the health and accessibility of our natural spaces, ensuring safety for both wildlife and the public. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of designated forest areas to monitor for unauthorized activities such as illegal dumping, trespassing, and poaching.
  • Participate in trail maintenance, including clearing pathways, signage repair, and minor infrastructure upkeep to ensure public safety and access.
  • Assist in wildfire prevention efforts, including fuel management, monitoring fire hazards, and responding to initial fire reports.
  • Engage with the public, providing information on forest regulations, responsible recreation, and environmental best practices.
  • Monitor wildlife populations and habitats, reporting observations and contributing to ecological data collection.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and ensure proper use of tools and vehicles.
  • Participate in search and rescue operations or emergency response as required, often in collaboration with other agencies.
  • Document and report findings, incidents, and activities accurately and promptly.
  • Assist with planting initiatives and other reforestation efforts.
  • Enforce park rules and regulations, issuing warnings or citations as necessary under supervision.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in remote and challenging outdoor environments.
  • Strong physical fitness, capable of hiking long distances, carrying equipment, and performing manual labor in varied weather conditions.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of local flora and fauna, or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools and outdoor equipment.
  • Ability to use GPS and navigation tools.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education or certificate in Forestry, Environmental Science, Conservation, or a related field.
  • Experience with chainsaws and brush saws (with valid certification).
  • Knowledge of provincial park regulations and conservation practices.
  • Experience in outdoor recreation, camping, or backcountry travel.
  • Basic understanding of fire suppression techniques.
