Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and culturally sensitive translation and interpretation services across various contexts.
- Translate a wide range of documents (e.g., legal, medical, administrative, personal) from target languages to English and vice-versa.
- Perform consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation during interviews, meetings, appointments, and consultations for non-English speaking individuals.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and data protection regulations at all times.
- Review and edit translated content for accuracy, grammar, style, and cultural appropriateness.
- Assist in the compilation, maintenance, and expansion of glossaries and terminology databases.
- Liaise effectively with clients and service users to clarify linguistic nuances and project requirements, ensuring clarity and precision.
- Contribute actively to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for foreigners navigating life in the UK.
Required Skills
- Native-level fluency in English and at least one other foreign language (e.g., Polish, Arabic, Ukrainian, Urdu, Punjabi, Romanian, Cantonese).
- Proven professional experience (at least 2 years) in translation and interpretation.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both source and target languages.
- Strong cultural awareness, sensitivity, and understanding of diverse international backgrounds.
- Proficiency with Translation Memory (TM) and Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (e.g., Trados, MemoQ) or a demonstrated willingness to learn quickly.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a team.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, or a related field.
- Recognized translation or interpretation certification (e.g., DipTrans, DPI, CIOL Qualifications).
- Specialized experience in specific domains such as legal, medical, immigration, or social services translation.
- Proficiency in multiple foreign languages relevant to the local demographic.
