Career.zycto is proud to partner with leading healthcare providers across the UK, and we are currently seeking highly motivated and skilled Biomedical Scientists from around the globe to join dynamic laboratory teams in Birkenhead, Liverpool. This is an exceptional opportunity for foreign-trained professionals ready to contribute their expertise to the National Health Service (NHS) or private diagnostic laboratories, playing a crucial role in patient care through accurate and timely diagnostic services.

As a Biomedical Scientist, you will be at the forefront of medical diagnostics, performing a wide range of laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases. Your daily duties will encompass working across various disciplines, including but not limited to haematology, microbiology, immunology, and clinical biochemistry, depending on the specific departmental needs and your specialist training. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment, analysing samples, interpreting results, and ensuring the highest standards of quality control and assurance are met at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures accurately and efficiently.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot highly complex analytical equipment.
  • Interpret and validate test results, ensuring accuracy and clinical relevance.
  • Adhere strictly to UKAS (ISO 15189) and NHS quality control and assurance protocols.
  • Participate in the calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments.
  • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities and patient results.
  • Collaborate effectively with pathologists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory services and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including COSHH.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance schemes.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent international qualification).
  • Demonstrable experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques across at least one core discipline (e.g., Haematology, Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a Biomedical Scientist (or in progress/eligible).
  • Specialist portfolio or equivalent postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience with UKAS accreditation requirements.
  • Familiarity with NHS operating procedures and guidelines.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
