Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load and unload cargo from railcars, trucks, and other transport vehicles.
- Operate various material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and potentially cranes or specialized loaders (with proper certification and training).
- Inspect cargo for damage and accurately record inventory, ensuring proper documentation.
- Secure cargo for transport using appropriate strapping, bracing, and other methods.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the yard and warehouse.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Perform routine equipment checks and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
- Assist with sorting, labelling, and stacking freight as required.
- Participate in ongoing training and safety refreshers to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a physically demanding role, such as construction, warehouse, or general labour.
- Ability to lift heavy objects consistently (up to 50 lbs) and perform strenuous physical tasks for extended periods.
- Strong understanding and commitment to workplace safety procedures and practices.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable transportation to and from the Junction Triangle, Toronto area.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments (indoor/outdoor).
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for reading manifests and recording data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid forklift operator certification (reach truck, counterbalance).
- Experience operating other heavy machinery or specialized cargo handling equipment.
- Previous experience in a rail yard, port, or large-scale logistics facility.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems or cargo tracking software.
