As an Emergency Dispatcher, you will be trained to expertly receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls, rapidly assess situations, and dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, or medical units. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, prioritize, and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including police, fire, and medical assistance.
- Obtain critical information from callers, assess the nature and severity of incidents, and determine appropriate resources needed.
- Provide clear, calm, and concise pre-arrival instructions to callers, ensuring safety and guidance until first responders arrive.
- Accurately input and maintain data in Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and other databases.
- Monitor multiple radio frequencies and communicate effectively with field units.
- Maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations, demonstrating empathy and active listening skills.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow dispatchers, supervisors, and emergency service personnel.
- Adhere strictly to all departmental policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
- Participate actively in ongoing training and professional development sessions.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong listening comprehension and problem-solving abilities.
