Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine the overall investment strategy for the pension fund, in alignment with funding policies and risk tolerance.
  • Oversee the selection, monitoring, and evaluation of external investment managers across various asset classes (equities, fixed income, real estate, alternatives).
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on potential investments and divestments, including financial modeling, valuation, and risk assessment.
  • Monitor global financial markets, economic trends, and geopolitical developments to identify opportunities and potential threats to the portfolio.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant pension legislation, investment guidelines, and internal policies.
  • Manage and report on the fund's asset allocation, rebalancing as necessary to maintain target exposures and optimize returns.
  • Prepare comprehensive performance reports, market commentaries, and strategic recommendations for the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively with actuaries, legal counsel, consultants, and internal finance teams.
  • Lead and mentor junior investment professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
  • Identify, assess, and manage investment risks, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in pension fund management, institutional investment, or asset management.
  • In-depth knowledge of investment theories, capital markets, and various asset classes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in portfolio construction, risk management, and performance attribution.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and financial modeling skills.
  • Thorough understanding of pension fund regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., OSFI, EIC).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex financial information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with investment management software and tools (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is highly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing principles and integration into portfolio strategy.
  • Prior experience managing defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plans.
