Key Responsibilities
- Maintain security and safety within the correctional facility by enforcing rules and regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities, cells, and inmates for contraband or security breaches.
- Supervise inmate activities, including meals, recreation, work assignments, and visitation.
- Respond effectively and appropriately to emergencies, disturbances, and security threats.
- Prepare accurate and detailed reports on incidents, observations, and inmate behavior.
- Escort inmates within the facility and to outside appointments as required.
- Perform inmate counts and ensure accurate accountability.
- Facilitate inmate programs and services, promoting a structured and rehabilitative environment.
- Operate security equipment and control access points.
- Interact professionally and respectfully with inmates, colleagues, and the public.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- U.S. Citizenship
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history and drug screening
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to remain calm and decisive in stressful situations
- Physical fitness to meet job demands, including standing, walking, lifting, and restraining if necessary
- Strong ethical character and integrity
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in security, military service, or customer service roles
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish)
