We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and detail-oriented Orthotist to provide comprehensive orthotic care, enhancing the mobility, comfort, and independence of our diverse patient population. In this pivotal full-time role, you will be responsible for the entire orthotic care pathway, from initial patient assessment to the final fitting and ongoing adjustments. Your day-to-day will involve conducting thorough physical evaluations, sophisticated gait analysis, and functional assessments to precisely determine each patient’s unique orthotic needs. You will then translate these findings into effective treatment plans, meticulously designing, measuring, casting, fabricating, and fitting custom orthoses. This includes a wide array of devices for conditions such as foot deformities, neuromuscular disorders, post-surgical rehabilitation, diabetic foot care, and pediatric developmental challenges. Your craftsmanship and clinical judgment will directly contribute to improving patients’ quality of life, whether they are recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or seeking to enhance athletic performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical evaluations, gait analysis, and functional assessments, to determine orthotic needs.
  • Prescribe, design, measure, cast, and fit custom orthoses, ensuring optimal alignment, comfort, and functionality.
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair orthotic devices using a variety of materials and techniques.
  • Educate patients and their families on the proper use, care, and maintenance of orthoses.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop integrated treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, device specifications, and progress notes.
  • Stay current with advancements in orthotic technology, materials, and clinical practices through continuous professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards and professional guidelines.
  • Manage patient appointments and follow-up care efficiently.
  • Participate in clinic meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Certified Orthotist (CO) designation or eligibility for certification with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC).
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience as an Orthotist.
  • Proficiency in advanced biomechanical assessment and gait analysis.
  • Expertise in the design, fabrication, and fitting of a wide range of custom orthoses.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and pathology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize and build rapport with patients.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics or a related field.
  • Experience with specialized pediatric or sports orthotics.
  • Familiarity with 3D scanning and CAD/CAM technologies for orthotic fabrication.
  • Experience in a private clinic setting.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
