Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Manager to join our operations in Downtown, South Portland. This pivotal full-time role demands a meticulous and proactive individual to oversee our entire fleet operations, ensuring maximum efficiency, safety, and compliance across all vehicle assets. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for the entire fleet to ensure optimal vehicle performance, longevity, and uptime.
  • Oversee daily dispatching, scheduling, and routing of vehicles to maximize efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and meet all operational demands and deadlines.
  • Manage the fleet budget, including meticulous tracking of fuel consumption, repair costs, procurement of new vehicles, and spare parts inventory.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Implement and monitor GPS tracking and telematics systems to improve driver behavior, enhance safety protocols, and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and comprehensive training programs for drivers and fleet personnel, promoting a strong culture of safety and compliance.
  • Negotiate favorable contracts with vendors for vehicle purchases, parts, maintenance services, and fuel supplies.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor fleet personnel, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and engaged team environment.
  • Analyze complex fleet data to identify trends, optimize routes, predict maintenance needs, and recommend strategic improvements to enhance overall fleet operations.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on fleet performance, operational costs, and regulatory compliance for senior management and stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in fleet management, transportation operations, or logistics leadership.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics, maintenance scheduling, diagnostics, and repair processes.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other relevant state and federal transportation regulations.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, control costs, and negotiate effectively with vendors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Certification in Fleet Management (e.g., Certified Automotive Fleet Manager – CAFM, Certified Fleet Management Specialist – CFMS).
  • Experience with electric vehicle (EV) fleet integration and managing sustainable transportation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with environmental sustainability practices and technologies in fleet operations.
  • Experience operating in a dynamic service-oriented or delivery-focused environment.
