Job Description
A Civil Engineer plays a pivotal role in designing, constructing, and maintaining infrastructure projects that are essential to modern society. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civil Engineer to join our client’s dedicated team in Windermere, Edmonton. This full-time position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to work on diverse projects ranging from residential developments and commercial complexes to public works and transportation systems. You will be instrumental in all project phases, from initial conceptualization and feasibility studies through detailed design, permitting, construction oversight, and final commissioning. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies, site investigations, and prepare detailed engineering reports and proposals.
- Design and analyze civil engineering projects, including grading, drainage, utilities, roads, and earthworks, adhering to local codes and standards.
- Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates using CAD software and other relevant tools.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure successful project delivery.
- Perform quality control and assurance checks on designs and construction activities.
- Collaborate with architects, urban planners, environmental specialists, and other engineers.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
- Obtain necessary permits and approvals from municipal, provincial, and federal authorities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members.
- Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in civil engineering.
- Participate in site visits, inspections, and progress meetings during construction phases.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or eligibility for registration with APEGA.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in civil engineering design and project management.
- Proficiency in civil engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, StormCAD, WaterCAD, ArcGIS).
- Strong understanding of Canadian building codes, municipal standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., City of Edmonton, AEP, Alberta Transportation).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for technical reports, presentations, and client interactions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with LEED certification processes or sustainable design principles.
- PMP certification or a strong background in formal project management methodologies.
- Experience in hydraulic modeling or stormwater management design.
- Familiarity with GIS applications for infrastructure planning.
- Previous experience working with Edmonton-specific development projects.
