Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting assistance, respecting client dignity and privacy.
- Assist clients with safe mobility, transfers, and ambulation, utilizing appropriate lifting techniques and equipment as required.
- Administer medication reminders and assist with self-administration as per care plan and scope of practice.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, meal preparation, and grocery shopping to maintain a clean and safe living environment.
- Provide companionship and engage clients in stimulating activities to promote mental and emotional well-being.
- Monitor and observe changes in client condition, reporting any concerns promptly to the supervisor or care coordinator.
- Document care provided accurately and efficiently, adhering to company policies and provincial regulations.
- Adhere strictly to infection control protocols and safety procedures.
- Support clients with appointments, errands, and social outings as needed.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, their families, and the healthcare team.
Required Skills
- Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate or equivalent (e.g., Health Care Aide Certificate in Alberta).
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to lift and transfer clients safely (up to 50 lbs) with or without assistance.
- Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with seniors or individuals with diverse health challenges (e.g., dementia, palliative care).
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) or care documentation software.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to Edmonton's diverse population.
- Food Safety Certification.
