As a Day Shift Healthcare Aide, you will be an integral and highly valued part of our interdisciplinary team, working collaboratively with nurses, therapists, and other support staff to ensure the holistic well-being of our residents. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) accurately and report any changes or concerns to nursing staff immediately.
  • Provide mobility assistance, including transfers, ambulation, and proper positioning to ensure resident comfort and prevent skin breakdown.
  • Assist with meal service, ensuring residents receive appropriate nutrition and hydration, and providing feeding assistance as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for residents, including tidying rooms and ensuring proper infection control practices.
  • Document care provided and observations meticulously in resident charts, adhering to established protocols.
  • Engage residents in meaningful social activities and provide companionship to enhance their quality of life.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to resident calls and requests, demonstrating empathy and patience.
  • Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Adhere to all facility policies and procedures, as well as provincial regulations and professional standards of practice.
  • Administer basic first aid and assist in emergency situations as directed by nursing staff.

Required Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Healthcare Aide (HCA) program or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate and patient-centered care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations (FOIP, HIA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a long-term care or assisted living facility.
  • Additional certifications such as First Aid, Dementia Care, or Palliative Care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • A positive, empathetic, and professional demeanor.
