Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing healthcare team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This full-time, on-site role offers a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with supervising physicians, providing comprehensive patient care across various clinical settings. In this dynamic position, you will be instrumental in enhancing access to care and improving health outcomes for our community, specifically focusing on primary care needs or specialized areas as determined by clinic requirements. Your responsibilities will span from conducting thorough patient histories and physical examinations, to diagnosing common and complex medical conditions, and developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans. You will confidently order and interpret a broad range of diagnostic tests, prescribe medications within your scope of practice and in consultation with supervising physicians, and provide crucial patient counseling on lifestyle modifications, disease prevention, and medication adherence. Furthermore, you will be involved in minor surgical procedures, wound care, and managing urgent care presentations, always ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety and quality. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and conditions under physician supervision.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRIs, and laboratory studies.
- Develop and implement patient treatment plans, including prescribing medications, therapies, and other medical services.
- Perform minor surgical procedures, wound care, and other clinical procedures.
- Provide patient education and counseling on health maintenance, disease prevention, and medication adherence.
- Collaborate effectively with supervising physicians and other healthcare team members.
- Document patient encounters accurately and timely in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuous professional development.
- Respond to urgent and emergent patient needs as required.
- Facilitate referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers.
Required Skills
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant in Nova Scotia.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Strong diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in primary care, emergency medicine, or a relevant specialty.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience with [Specific EMR System, e.g., Meditech, Cerner].
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
