Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Industrial Boilermaker to join our network of top-tier manufacturing and construction clients in the Palmer Woods, Detroit area. This is a critical role for professionals passionate about fabricating, assembling, erecting, and repairing boilers, tanks, vessels, and other structural items made from steel or other heavy metals. Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, erect, and repair boilers, tanks, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and other heavy-metal structures.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine specifications and layout of work.
  • Perform various welding techniques (SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, GMAW) on different materials, ensuring quality and structural integrity.
  • Operate rigging equipment, hoists, and other power tools to lift, move, and position heavy components.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance on completed work and existing equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies, including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Measure, mark, and cut plate steel, structural shapes, and pipes using oxy-acetylene torches, plasma cutters, and other tools.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other trades to ensure project success.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are in good working order.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a certified Boilermaker in an industrial setting (minimum 3 years).
  • Proficiency in various welding processes, including stick (SMAW) and flux-cored (FCAW).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Expertise in rigging, hoisting, and safe handling of heavy materials and equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of industrial safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools common to the trade (grinders, drills, torches, etc.).
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship completion or journeyman certification in Boilermaking.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with specialized fabrication techniques or materials (e.g., chrome, stainless steel).
  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and industry standards relevant to boiler and pressure vessel construction.
