Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations including general, OB/GYN, vascular, and small parts studies in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring optimal image quality and patient safety.
  • Accurately record and archive diagnostic images and patient data in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Provide preliminary interpretation of images and communicate findings to radiologists or referring physicians as appropriate.
  • Maintain clear, concise, and accurate patient records, including medical history pertinent to the examination.
  • Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety throughout the entire sonography procedure, explaining procedures clearly to alleviate anxiety.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care and optimal outcomes.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines, safety regulations, and infection control standards to maintain a safe and compliant clinical environment.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, departmental meetings, and continuous professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in performing a broad range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to sonography.
  • Excellent technical skills in operating and troubleshooting state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment.
  • Ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images consistently and effectively.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and collaborative team dynamics.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and accurate documentation abilities.
  • Commitment to patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment, managing multiple tasks.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or equivalent certification through ARDMS.
  • Specialty certifications such as RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) or RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer).
  • Experience with advanced ultrasound technologies, 3D/4D imaging, and PACS imaging software.
  • Previous experience of 2+ years in an outpatient clinic or hospital setting.
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English) is a significant advantage.
