Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations including general, OB/GYN, vascular, and small parts studies in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring optimal image quality and patient safety.
- Accurately record and archive diagnostic images and patient data in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Provide preliminary interpretation of images and communicate findings to radiologists or referring physicians as appropriate.
- Maintain clear, concise, and accurate patient records, including medical history pertinent to the examination.
- Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety throughout the entire sonography procedure, explaining procedures clearly to alleviate anxiety.
- Collaborate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care and optimal outcomes.
- Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines, safety regulations, and infection control standards to maintain a safe and compliant clinical environment.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, departmental meetings, and continuous professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in performing a broad range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures.
- Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to sonography.
- Excellent technical skills in operating and troubleshooting state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment.
- Ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images consistently and effectively.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and collaborative team dynamics.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and accurate documentation abilities.
- Commitment to patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment, managing multiple tasks.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or equivalent certification through ARDMS.
- Specialty certifications such as RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) or RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer).
- Experience with advanced ultrasound technologies, 3D/4D imaging, and PACS imaging software.
- Previous experience of 2+ years in an outpatient clinic or hospital setting.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English) is a significant advantage.
