Key Responsibilities

  • Greet guests warmly, take drink orders accurately, and serve beverages in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and serve a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including cocktails, beers, wines, and spirits.
  • Handle cash and card transactions efficiently, process payments, and manage a till with precision.
  • Maintain a clean and organised bar area, including washing glassware, replenishing stock, and tidying up.
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and responsible service of alcohol policies.
  • Engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner, anticipating their needs and providing excellent service.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures for the bar, including stock checks and cash reconciliation.
  • Collaborate effectively with kitchen and other front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service operations.
  • Address customer inquiries and resolve any service issues politely and efficiently.
  • Promote specials and new products to enhance the customer experience and boost sales.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a bar or customer service role, preferably within hospitality.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of common drink recipes and bar operations.
  • Proficiency in handling cash and operating a till system.
  • Reliability and punctuality, especially for weekend shifts.
  • Legal right to work in the UK and serve alcohol.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with cocktail preparation.
  • NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Food and Beverage Service or a related field.
  • Knowledge of local licensing laws specific to York.
  • A passion for mixology and an eagerness to learn new drink recipes.
