Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and individualized nursing care to pediatric patients based on their specific needs and developmental stage.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures accurately and safely, observing for adverse reactions.
  • Monitor, assess, and document changes in patient condition, notifying physicians and adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, medication regimens, and self-care techniques in an age-appropriate manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, child life specialists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely electronic patient records and documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring the physical, emotional, and psychological comfort of pediatric patients and their families.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies and critical situations.

Required Skills

  • Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Minnesota.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a pediatric acute care setting.
  • Demonstrated strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining composure.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and patient-focused approach to care.
  • Proficiency in administering pediatric medications and treatments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • 2+ years of dedicated pediatric nursing experience in a hospital setting.
  • Specialty certification in Pediatrics (e.g., Certified Pediatric Nurse – CPN).
  • Experience with Epic or other major Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
  • Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus.
